Fraud

 On February 12, 2024, the Oak Bay Police received a report of an online fraud. The complainant responded to an online residential rental ad. The suspect requested an e-transfer for a security deposit and first month rent, totaling $4,650. The complainant sent the e-transfer and on the agreed upon move in date attended the residence, at which point the home occupant advised that they had lived there for years, and the residence had not been listed for rent. The matter is still under investigation. (OB 24-336)

 Excessive Speed

 On February 15, 2024, at 2:30pm, the Oak Bay Police were conducting speed enforcement on Beach Dr near Newport Ave, which is a posted 40km/h zone. Police observed a white BMW travelling Northbound on Beach Dr, which appeared to be travelling over 100km/h. A Lidar speed measuring device was used to capture the speed of the vehicle, which was 121km/h. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as a 61-year-old man. The man was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speed S. 148(1) MVA $483 and his vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days. (OB 24-360)
