Weekly Media Release for Feb. 5 to Feb. 11, 2024

This is the Media Release for the week of February 5 to February 11, 2024. The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 47 calls for service this week.


On February 5, 2024, the Oak Bay Police received a report of a mischief in progress in the 1900 block of Bee St. Witnesses advised a man entered the building and pulled the fire alarm and then ripped the alarm bell off the wall and fled the scene. The 30-year-old man was located a short distance away and was arrested for mischief. The man was released on an Appearance Notice to attend court at a later date. (OB File 24-285)


On February 6, 2024, the Oak Bay Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Newport Ave and Windsor Rd. It was determined a vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Windsor Rd., and then drove through the intersection and struck a vehicle travelling north on Newport Ave. The driver did not see the vehicle and proceeded into the intersection striking the vehicle on Newport Ave. There were no injuries reported. There was significant damage to both vehicles and they were towed from the scene. The 77-year-old female driver was issued was issued a Violation Ticket for Failing to Yield to a Vehicle. Break and Enter

On February 11, 2024, the Oak Bay Police responded to an interrupted break and enter in the area of Lorne Terrace and Maquinna St. The owners arrived home to find a man standing in their front porch. Upon seeing the homeowners, the suspect quickly departed on a bicycle. The man had removed a screen to gain access to the front porch of the home. The man attempted to pry open a window but was unsuccessful in entering the residence. The Saanich Police Forensic Identification Section attended and processed the scene. The matter is still under investigation. (OB File 24-329)
