The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 50 calls for service this week.
Three Day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition
On January 1, 2024, at 19:53 pm, the Oak Bay Police Department were conducting a Counterattack Road Check in the 3000 block of Foul Bay Rd., targeting impaired drivers. A 19-year-old man drove up the road check. The driver had a smell of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and as a result police demanded the driver provide a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device. The subsequent reading on the Approved Screening Device (ASD) was a “Warn”, indicating that the driver’s blood alcohol content was between 60 – 99 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood. The driver was issued a 3 Day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and his vehicle was impounded for 3 days. (OB 2024-5)

The Coast Guard has taken on the lead investigation in this matter. (OB 2024-28 & 2024-38)

During the week, there were three thefts from motor vehicle files, all of which occurred in the late night, early morning hours. Small amounts of money and personal items were stolen. Police would like to remind the public to lock vehicle doors and remove all valuables from your vehicle when not in use. Police will be continuing patrols during those times and are requesting the public’s assistance in reporting suspicious activity. (OB 2024-29 & 2024-30 & 2024-39)
