The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 38 calls for service that week.

On January 25, 2023, 10:50 pm, the Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a fire on the beach. Upon arrival, officers found a group of people around a small wood fire contained within a steel fire pit. Oak Bay Police wish to remind the community that outdoor fires, including backyard burning and beach fires, are not permitted in Oak Bay. A fire fueled solely by propane, natural gas or charcoal briquettes, may be permitted. (OB 2023-209)

On January 27, 2023, at 3:30 pm, Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a theft in the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Rd. The complainant reported that someone had entered the store and selected several pairs of Maui Jim sunglasses and tucked them into their sleeve before exiting the store without paying for them. The suspect was described as blonde-haired female, in her 30’s, approximately 5’2 with a slim build. She was wearing a black satin jacket with the letters L and K on the back , black ripped skinny jeans and red boots with white soles. The approximate value of loss was estimated at $2000.00. This investigation is still under investigation. (OB2023-222)
