Weekly Media Release for Jan. 30 – Feb. 5, 2023

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 72 calls for service this week.

On February 2, 2023, at 6:30am, the Oak Bay Police responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle in the 2000 Block of Townley St. The complainant reported their vehicle had been entered sometime overnight. The vehicle was not damaged, and the complainant is unsure if anything had been stolen. (OB 2023-267)

On February 4, 2023, at 10:30 pm, Oak Bay Police Department officers conducted traffic enforcement along the 3000 Block of Foul Bay Rd. Officers stopped approximately 100 vehicles and checked for seatbelt use, valid insurance, and impaired driving. Oak Bay Police are pleased to report all drivers stopped were found to be sober, wearing their seatbelts and driving with valid insurance. (OB 2023-295)

On February 5, 2023, at approximately 3:15am, Oak Bay Police Department officers were on patrol near Oak Bay Ave and Hampshire Rd when a 2005 Porsche, with a burnt-out head light, was observed. The officers pulled the vehicle over and while speaking to the female driver the officers detected a smell of alcohol on her breath. A roadside breath demand resulted in the 20-year-old female driver being issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. The woman’s licence was seized for 24 hours, and her vehicle was towed and impounded for 24 hours. (OB 2023-297)

OBPD responded to 10 calls this week related to emergency mental health incidents. Officers attending these calls took steps to ensure the people in crisis were safe and able to access mental health support services.
