The officer knew the 19 year old female driver was prohibited because he had arrested her exactly one month before for the same offence. OPBD is hopeful this driver will make better choices in the future and not continue to drive while prohibited. However, should that not be the case we will be looking out to correct her actions once again. She was charged with driving while prohibited and her vehicle was impounded for seven days (Oak Bay Police Files 2022-08 & 2022-322 refer).

On February 4, 2022, at 1:00pm, a 23-year-old male driver experienced first hand what can happen if you accelerate quickly while attempting to make a left-hand turn when roads are wet. The driver lost control of his silver Mazda Miata at Lansdowne Road and Cadboro Bay Road which resulted in the car hitting and jumping the curb, then coming to rest on the sidewalk. The car was left damaged and un-drivable. The driver and his passenger were not injured. The Mazda was towed, and the driver issued a violation ticket for Improper Turn at Intersection under Sec.165(5) of the Motor Vehicle Act (Oak Bay Police File 2022-348 refers).

Over the last week several drivers were found operating vehicles in Oak Bay without valid insurance. On February 6, 2022, a 46-year-old driver was pulled over when an Oak Bay Police Officer noticed the insurance decal on the license plate, attached to a Tesla, had expired in November 2021. The driver was issued a violation ticket for No Insurance Sec. 24(3)(b) Motor Vehicle Act which comes with an associated fine of $598.00. The driver was able to arrange insurance roadside and a tow truck was not required (Oak Bay Police File 2022-363).
