On July 13, 2023, at 2007 hours, police received a report of a stolen bicycle. The owner locked the bike in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Ave and when they returned the lock had been cut and the bicycle, a silver Kona 10 speed, was stolen. (OB File 23-2000)
On July 14, 2023, at 0005 hours, an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Cedar Hill Cross Rd. A vehicle was observed travelling 80km/h in a 50km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted for speeding and the 23-year-old male driver had also been consuming alcohol. As a result of a roadside screening test, the driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition Section 215 of the Motor Vehicle Act and a violation ticket for speeding Section 146(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act with a fine of $196. On July 14, 2023, between 0800-1630 hours, an owner locked their bike up in the 1900 block of Bee St. When they returned the bicycle, a blue Norco 21 speed road bike, had been stolen along with the lock. (OB File 23-2009)
On July 14, 2023, at 2053 hours, an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Beach Drive, which is a posted 40km/h zone. A vehicle was observed Northbound travelling in excess of 100km/h. A Lidar speed measuring device was used to target the vehicle and it registered a speed of 107km/h. A traffic stop was conducted, and the 28-year-old male driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed Section 148(1) MVA with a fine of $483 and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. On July 14, 2023, at 2242 hours, an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Cedar Hill Cross Rd. A vehicle was observed travelling 81km/h in a 50km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the 27-year-old male driver with a class 7 Novice driver’s licence (which requires the driver to have a blood alcohol content of zero) had also been consuming alcohol. The male was issued a violation ticket for speed Section 146(7) MVA with a fine of $196, driving contrary to his restrictions Section 25(15) with a fine of $109 and was also issued a 12-hour driving prohibition Section 90.3 MVA. On July 15, 2023, at 1348 hours, an officer was on patrol and noted a vehicle was being operating without valid insurance. A traffic stop was conducted, and it was confirmed that the 29-year-old female was operating the motor vehicle without insurance. She was subsequently issued a violation ticket for no insurance Section 24(3)(b) MVA with a fine of $598. (OB File 23-2026)
On July 15, 2023, at 2109 hours, in a moment of deja vu, an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Beach Drive, which is a posted 40km/h zone. A vehicle was observed Northbound travelling approximately 95km/h. A Lidar speed measuring device was used to target the vehicle and it registered a speed of 107km/h. A traffic stop was conducted, and the 52-year-old male driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed Section 148(1) MVA with a fine of $483 and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
