The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 88 calls for service this week.

Cyclist Struck by Vehicle

On July 28, 2025, officers responded to a collision involving a cyclist at the intersection of Foul Bay Road and Carnarvon Street. A vehicle failed to yield after stopping and struck a young cyclist. The cyclist was wearing a helmet and sustained only minor injuries. As a precaution, the cyclist was transported to hospital. The driver was issued a violation ticket for Failing to Yield After Stop under the Motor Vehicle Act, Section 175(1), with a fine of $167. (File 25-2071)

Theft from Vehicle

On July 30, 2025, OBPD responded to a report of theft from a vehicle that occurred overnight. The suspect gained entry by smashing a window and stole several items. The investigation remains ongoing.

Public Safety Reminder: OBPD advises residents not to leave valuables in vehicles. Whenever possible, park in well-lit areas or secure garages. (File 25-2099)

Prohibited Driver & Warrant Arrest

On August 1, 2025, OBPD conducted a traffic stop involving a prohibited driver in the 1600 block of Hampshire Rd. The driver fled on foot through nearby backyards. A retired OBPD member was in the area and assisted by contacted police while discreetly following the suspect – proving that once a cop, always a cop. The individual was located and arrested on outstanding warrants. The driver did not possess a valid driver’s licence and was issued multiple violation tickets. The vehicle was impounded.
