Weekly Media Release for June 19 – June 25, 2023

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 71 calls for service this past week.

2023-1718- Attempted Break and enter to a business.

On June 19, at 9:25 am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of an attempted break and enter to a business located in the 2000 block of Cadboro Bay Rd. Upon arrival, officers found evidence that a suspect had attempted to pry open the rear door of the business. This incident is potentially connected to the attempt to break into this building last week. Police determined that entry had not been made to this business or any other businesses at the plaza. This investigation is ongoing.

2023-1746-Excessive Speed

On June 21, at approximately 10:00pm, while conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Beach Dr and Newport Ave., a 21-year-old man was stopped for going 95 km/h in a 40km/h zone. The driver was issued a violation ticket for Excessive Speeding under section 148(1) of the Motor vehicle act with a fine of $368.00. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

2023-1773 Mischief

On June 24, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a mischief at Windsor Park, located at 2451 Windsor Rd. A resident reported someone had cut and removed several sections of the artificial turf on the cricket pitch, causing approximately $4000.00 damage to the field. There are currently no suspects.

2023-1780- Break and enter to a residential building.

On June 25, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a break and enter in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Ave. The resident reported the building mailboxes and maintenance room had been targeted. Police viewed CCTV footage that showed a man used  a long tool to enter the building at approximately 4:22 am that day. The man arrived by bicycle and used the tool to open the front door. The male suspect is described as approximately 5’7-5’10 in height with a medium to thin build.  The man was wearing a black baggy hoodie sweater, blue jeans, black Nike runners with a white swoop, dark camo baseball cap and had a black backpack.  The man was riding an older bicycle with silver rims and flat handlebars (photos not available at this time).

2023-1782 Break and Enter- Residential

On June 25 at 6:00pm, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a break and enter in the 2000 block of Granite St. The resident reported their storage locker had been broken into and their Segway ES2, black, 9 Bot electric scooter, Gregory back country backpack, Hennessy hammock, a sleeping bag and other various camping items were stolen. Total value of the loss is  estimated at over $2000.00. The date of the break in is unknown. There are currently no suspects.
