Weekly Media Release for June 29 to July 5, 2026

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 88 calls for service this week.

THEFTS FROM VEHICLES

Between June 29 and July 5, 2026, Oak Bay Police received five reports of thefts from vehicles parked overnight in various areas of Oak Bay. Stolen items included a wallet, camera, sunglasses, tools, a portable battery booster, and a licence plate. In each theft from vehicle report, there were no signs of forced entry and investigators believe the vehicles had been left unlocked. Police are reminding residents to remove valuables from vehicles, lock doors, and report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods. Even brief opportunities can provide thieves with easy access to unattended property. (Files 2026-1970, 2026-1976, 2026-1993, 2026-2014, and 2026-2019)

EXCESSIVE SPEEDING

On July 4, 2026, Oak Bay Police conducted speed enforcement along Beach Drive and stopped a motorcyclist travelling 114 km/h in a posted 40 km/h zone. The rider was issued a violation ticket for excessive speeding, and the motorcycle was impounded for seven days. With the increased number of pedestrians, cyclists, and families enjoying Oak Bay’s waterfront during the summer months, police are reminding motorists that excessive speed significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a collision. (File 2026-2020).
