The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 62 calls for service this week.

Impaired Driver on Beach Drive

On March 4, 2025, at approximately 7:12 PM, while conducting traffic enforcement on Beach Drive, police investigated a vehicle for speeding, traveling 20 km/h over the posted speed limit. The driver, a 42-year-old Saanich resident, was found to have an odour of alcohol on his breath. Subsequent investigation resulted in the driver failing a roadside screening device. The vehicle was impounded, and the driver was served a 90-day driving prohibition. (File 25-556)

Arson Incident at Carnarvon Park

On March 4, 2025, at approximately 12:27 PM, the Oak Bay Fire Department informed the Oak Bay Police Department of a fire incident in the male washroom at Carnarvon Park. The incident, believed to have occurred overnight, resulted in damage to a urinal, which required replacement at an estimated cost of $1,500. There are currently no suspects. (File 25-550)

Theft at Liquor Store

On March 5, 2025, at approximately 9:48 PM, Oak Bay Police received a report of a theft at a liquor store in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Ave. A man and woman reportedly worked together to distract staff and steal approximately $1,000 worth of wine. Police are working on identifying the two suspects and the investigation is ongoing. (File 25-564)
