The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 60 calls for service this week.

Stolen Outboard Engine Recovered

On February 28, with assistance from the RCMP Marine Border Enforcement Team, officers recovered a stolen outboard engine from a sailboat moored near Esplanade and Estevan Ave. Officers had several conversations with the owner of the boat, who then sailed away on March 2. The true owner of the stolen engine was surprised and pleased to hear from police. The engine had disappeared almost six years ago from a property on Salt Spring Island. Officers are making arrangements with the owner to return it. (25-513 / 25-521)

Kid’s Bike Found at Carnarvon Park

On the evening of February 28, 2025, a citizen contacted police to report finding a child’s bicycle in Carnarvon Park. The bike was lying in the field with no one around. It is a Redline Commander, single speed, with a black and blue frame. If this belongs to you or your family, please contact the Oak Bay Police. (25-519)

Attempted Break and Enter on King George Terrace

On March 2, 2025, shortly before 2:00 am, a homeowner called 911 after viewing live security camera footage of a person trying to gain entry. Patrol officers and the Integrated Canine Service (ICS) responded. After a lengthy search of the property, police found the suspect hiding in a tree. Officers arrested the individual safely and without injury. The suspect, a youth under the age of eighteen, was returned to their family home. The investigation is ongoing. (25-524)
