Weekly Media Release for May 16 – May 22, 2022

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 83 calls for service that week.

On Monday May 16, police were called to the 1700 block of St Anne St. in regard to a theft from auto. The complainant reported that their red Milwaukee Tool backpack containing approximately $1500 worth of tools was stolen out of their vehicle. The complainant stated it occurred sometime between the evening of 2022-05-13 and the morning of the 16th. No damage was noted to the truck or other items missing. (OB 2022-1414)

On Tuesday May 17, police were called to the 1400 block of Monterey Ave. in regard to a theft from auto. The complainant reported that their handicap parking pass was stolen out of their vehicle. No damage was noted to the vehicle or other items missing. (OB 2022-1424)

On Wednesday May 18, the Oak Bay Police Department attend a number of calls relating to downed trees and power lines across the municipality. Police wish to remind the community to avoid areas where trees and powerlines are down. Do not cross barriers that have been placed in the area. Those barriers have been placed there for your protection. (OB 2022-1438, 1439, 1440, 1441)

On May 20, police were called to the 2200 block of Oak Bay Ave in regard to a theft of jewelry that occurred on the 19th. The complainant reported they noticed a number of items missing from the shelves. Staff reviewed CCTV footage and observed a female placing items into a green bag and exiting the store without paying for it. This investigation is ongoing. (2022-1459)

On May 22, Police received a report of a mischief in the 2000 block of Brighton Ave. The complainant reported that they found their Ukrainian flag had been spray painted. There are no suspects or witnesses at this time. (OB 2022-1481)
