Weekly Media Release for Nov. 13 – Nov. 27, 2022

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 79 calls for service this week.

Nov 13 – Fraud/Found Bicycle 22-3554

A citizen located a bicycle on their front lawn and posted photos on social media inquiring if anyone had their bicycle stolen. The value of the bicycle was approximately $7500. Several fraudulent claims were made to the citizen and OBPD claiming to be the owners of the bicycle. The rightful owner was located and provided proof of purchase and the bicycle was returned. A reminder to residents to take photos and keep receipts and serial numbers for valuable items or recreational equipment in case they are required for proof of ownership in the future.

Nov 13 – Break and Enter 22-3540

OBPD attended a commercial break and enter in the early morning hours of November 13th, 2022. The male suspect entered the business by smashing a rear window and climbing through. The suspect stole approximately $15,000 worth of merchandise before fleeing the scene. K9 unit attended and a short track to a nearby parking lot indicated the suspect likely fled in an awaiting vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

Nov 17 – IRP/Speeding 22-3593

While on Patrol, OBPD members observed a vehicle pull out on the roadway in front of Police and begin speeding, travelling approximately 62 km/h in a posted 40km/h zone. Officers pulled the vehicle over and while speaking to the male driver, detected a smell of alcohol on his breath. A roadside breath demand resulted in the 35-year-old male driver blowing a “Warn”. The driver was given a 3-day IRP licence suspension, his vehicle was impounded, and he was issued $350 dollars in fines for speeding and traffic infractions.

Nov 19 – Assist Fire/Overdose 22-3602

On the morning of November 19th, 2022, a citizen located a 23-year-old male unconscious at a bus stop near Foul Bay Rd and Fort Street.  Oak Bay Police, Oak Bay Fire and EHS attended, and the male party was given Narcan and provided medical care. The male was transported the Royal Jubilee to be monitored.

Nov 19 – Assault 22-3433

On the 19th of November 2022 Oak Bay Police were able to identify the female believed to be responsible for an assault that occurred in the area of Hall Road on November 3, 2022. During the incident an elderly male was pushed down his front steps by the female suspect who was attempting to get inside his residence. A media release and Crimestoppers report were circulated to the community with a photo of the woman which resulted in several “tipsters” coming forward to identify the suspect. The 23-year-old female was arrested and charged with assault and will appear before the courts in the new year.
