Attempted Theft of Vehicle – Newport Avenue
On November 24, Oak Bay Police attended an automotive shop in the 1200 block of Newport Avenue for a report of an attempted vehicle theft. The owner discovered damage to a 1982 Ford Bronco, including a broken driver-side window and tampering with the steering column. The suspect was unsuccessful, likely due to the vehicle’s dead battery. A screwdriver left behind was seized for forensic analysis, and video surveillance was obtained showing a suspect wearing a brown jacket and orange safety vest. (File 2025-3343)

Break and Enter – Newport Avenue
On November 28, Oak Bay Police responded to a reported break and enter at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Newport Avenue. A shed was forcibly entered overnight, and several items were stolen, including a Ryobi lawn mower, Ryobi weed eater, a 24V battery charger with two batteries, and a gas-powered leaf blower. There were no witnesses or CCTV footage. Police spent time with the building manager reviewing Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategies to assist in deterring theft in the future. The investigation is ongoing. Mischief Incidents – Burdick Avenue, Dunlevy Street, and Musgrave Street
Oak Bay Police received three separate reports of mischief between November 26 and 28:
On November 26, a raw egg was thrown at the front door of a residence in the 2700 block of Burdick Avenue. No suspects or witnesses were identified. (File 2025-3369)
On November 27, a homeowner in the 2800 block of Dunlevy Street reported that a youth sprayed mustard on their front door the previous evening. The incident was captured on video, but the suspect could not be identified, described only as wearing a white bicycle helmet, black hoodie, and white shoes. (File 2025-3382)
On November 28, another resident in the 2700 block of Musgrave Street reported egg residue near their front door after hearing a loud bang. Two male youths riding e-bikes were seen in the area but could not be identified. (File 2025-3381)
Oak Bay Police remind residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Simple measures such as installing motion-activated lighting, maintaining clear sightlines to entry points, and using video surveillance where possible can help deter mischief and property damage.
