Mischief to Vehicle
On Wednesday October 18, 2023, at 8:45am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of damage to a vehicle in the 1300 block of St. David St. The vehicle owner reported sometime between Tuesday October 17th at 9:00pm and Wednesday October 18th at 7:00am, an unknown person entered their 2023 Audi Q7 while it was parked in their driveway. The owner told police the vehicle was left unlocked overnight. Nothing was reported stolen, and no damage was observed. There is no CCTV or witnesses for this event. (OB2023-3177)
Break and Enter to Shed.
On Wednesday October 18, 2023, at 9:57am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a break and enter to a locked shed in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue. The building manager reported sometime overnight, someone had broken into the shed behind the business. The suspect broke the lock to the shed and stole a large blue GFL environmental bin belonging to the building. The bin was later located near the townhouses on Yale St and returned to the business. No CCTV was available at either location. (OB2023-3178)
Theft from Auto
On Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 3:39pm, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle parked in the 900 block of Newport Avenue. A resident reported they had left their Hyundai Santa Fe unlocked in their driveway overnight. The suspect entered the unlocked vehicle and stole some spare change. The suspect left behind a black BOSE Soundlink speaker. No suspect has been identified. (OB2023-3193)
Theft of Vehicle.
On Friday October 20, 2023, at 9:00am, the Oak Bay Police received a report from a resident reporting their vehicle had been stolen from the 2000 block of Dewdney Avenue. The resident stated they parked their 2007 GMC Canyon pick up truck in front of their home around 8:00pm the night before and went to bed. The next morning, they realized the vehicle had been stolen. The resident called 911 to report the theft and learned the vehicle had been impounded by Victoria Police Department. VicPD had stopped the vehicle at 4:00am that morning after the pickup truck was seen driving at a high rate of speed. A 50-year-old man was initially arrested by VicPD for obstructing police by providing a false name. Further investigation revealed that the man was prohibited from driving.
Police are recommending four charges to the Crown:
- Theft of Auto, contrary to Section 333.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Possession of Stolen Property, contrary to Section 355 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Breach of Undertaking, contrary to Section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Driving while prohibited, contrary to Section 320.18 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Mischief
On Saturday October 20, 2023, at 11:09pm, the Oak Bay Police Department received a report of a man walking with a hammer in the 2200 block of Oak Bay Avenue. A witness reported seeing the man smashing the window at the CIBC on Oak Bay Avenue with a hammer. The man continued to walk eastbound on Oak Bay Avenue, took his shirt off, and dropped the hammer. Officers arrived on scene a short time later and arrested the man for mischief. The 50-year-old man was released on an Undertaking with multiple conditions and will be appearing in court in early 2024. Police are recommending a charge of Mischief, contrary to section 430, of the Criminal Code of Canada be laid. (OB2023-3219)
