Theft from Auto
On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 11:12 am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue. A witness reported observing a man smashing the front passenger window of an unoccupied grey Hyundai Sonata and called police. It was later discovered by investigating officers that the driver of the parked car had left money visible on the front passenger seat of his locked rental car while he stepped away for a few minutes and went inside a nearby business. The suspect, who smashed the car window and stole almost $5,000.00 in cash, is described as having light skin, was wearing a “Tilly” style brimmed hat and camo cargo pants and was carrying a hiking backpack. Police conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect. No video footage of the area is available. This matter is still under investigation. (OB2023-3093)

On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at approximately 8:54 pm, the Oak Bay Police were conducting speed enforcement near Beach Dr and Newport Ave. A 21-year-old man was stopped for going 82 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. The driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speed Section 148(1) MVA in the amount of $368 and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (OB2023-3098)

A 47-year-old man was stopped for going 84 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. A 20-year-old man was stopped for going 100 km/h in a 40 km/h zone.
