Suspicious Vehicle Fire
On Monday, October 2nd , 2023, at approximately 5:34pm, Oak Bay Police Department responded with Oak Bay Fire Department to the 2300 block of Pacific Ave for a report of a vehicle on fire. The fire was promptly extinguished by Oak Bay Fire Department. The fire destroyed a 2024 green Kia Sportage and damaged two vehicles parked next to it. The vehicles were parked on the street and unoccupied. No one was injured. The estimated value of the total damage is $50,000.00. The origin of the fire is believed to be suspicious in nature. The fire is being investigated by Oak Bay Fire Department and Oak Bay Police Department. Please contact Oak Bay Police Department if you have any information about this incident. Excessive Speed
On Tuesday, October 3rd , at approximately 10:40pm, the Oak Bay Police were conducting speed enforcement near Cedar Hill Cross Rd and Crestview Rd. An 18-year-old male was stopped for going 114km/h in a 50km/h zone. The driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speed, Section 148(1) MVA in the amount of $368 and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (OB2023-3024)
Fraud-Romance Scam
On Wednesday, October 5th , 2023, at approximately 12:53pm, the Oak Bay Police were dispatched to a report of a $150,000.00 fraud. An Oak Bay resident reported they “met” a woman on Facebook in December of 2022 and have had on going relationship since that time. Over the course of several months, the woman, who reported she lived in the southern United States, requested money from the Oak Bay resident so she could buy airline tickets, pay for medical bills, and cover other various expenses. The woman told the Oak Bay resident she had a large financial payment coming due to her soon but needed funds in advance to secure it. The woman claimed once she secured the funds, she would move to Canada to be with him and live together. The woman recently asked the Oak Bay resident to provide her with their banking information. When they refused to share their banking information the woman stopped all communication. The Oak Bay resident reported that over the course of their relationship he had sent the woman over $150,000.00. This investigation is on going. (OB2023-3041)
