Weekly Media Release for Sept. 25 – Oct. 1, 2023

The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 75 calls for service this week.

Excessive Speed: On Monday, September 25, at approximately 10:20pm, the Oak Bay Police were conducting speed enforcement in the area of Beach Dr. and Newport Ave. A 20-year-old male was stopped for going 83km/h in a 40km/h zone. The driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speed Section 148(1) MVA in the amount of $368 and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (OB 2023-2925)

The driver was issued a Violation Ticket for Excessive Speed Section 148(1) MVA in the amount of $368 and his motorcycle was impounded for 7 days. (OB 2023-2981)

Theft from Auto: On Thursday, September 28, at 8:00am, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a report of a theft from an automobile in the 1000 block of Hampshire Rd. The resident reported that their vehicle had been entered overnight and approximately $20.00 in change and a pair of sunglasses were stolen. No suspects have been identified. (OB 2023-2944)

Breach of Bail Conditions: On Friday, September 29, at approximately 3:50pm, members of the Oak Bay Police Department were on patrol in the 2100 block of Central Ave., and observed a male who was known to be on bail conditions. One of his conditions was not to be in contact with a certain female, and he was seen in front of a residence with that female. Police considered the male’s violent history and contacted the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) to assist in making the arrest. At approximately 6:00pm, the 40 year old male was arrested by GVERT. The accused has been charged with one count of Failing to Comply With A Release Order Sec. 145(5) Criminal Code. (OB 2023-2961)
