The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 66 calls for service this week.
During this week officers were out conducting high visibility enforcement reminding motorists that this was the second week for back to school. During this time officers issued 9 violations and 16 warnings to drivers.
Theft in Progress / Warrant Arrest (x 10)
On September 18 at 2:10 a.m., officers responded to a theft in progress at a hotel on Beach Drive. A male was observed on CCTV entering the closed pub area at approximately 1:30 a.m. and stealing a key to the cash box behind the bar. The individual remained on scene and refused to return the key to night staff.
Officers attended and located the male in the lobby. Upon being confronted, he surrendered the key. The individual was found to be wanted by Victoria Police on 10 unendorsed warrants, including charges for assault, fraud, uttering threats, breach, false alarm of fire, motor vehicle theft, dangerous operation, failure to stop, and mischief over and under $5,000. He was arrested without incident and transferred to Victoria Police custody. The OBPD theft investigation is ongoing. (OBPD File 25-2643)
Motor Vehicle Collision (vehicle vs. cyclist)
On September 18, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Oak Bay Police were flagged down by a cyclist in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue following a collision with a motor vehicle.
The cyclist sustained minor scratches after being struck by a vehicle turning into a driveway. The driver remained on scene and confirmed the account. Both parties were cooperative and declined medical assistance. A written warning was issued to the driver, and both were advised to contact ICBC. No charges were pursued.
Safety Reminder:
Motorists are reminded to check blind spots and signal clearly when turning, especially near parked vehicles and bike lanes. Cyclists should remain visible and cautious when navigating around obstacles. Shared road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
