Weekly Media Release for September 6 to 12, 2021

On Monday, September 6th, the Oak Bay Police received a bicycle theft in the 3500 block of Ripon Road. The suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a green Norco mountain bicycle valued at $1000.00.

OB File #2021-2804
On Wednesday, September 8th, the Oak Bay Police attended a theft in the 2200 block of Oak Bay Avenue. The suspect entered a liquor store and stole a liquor bottle valued at $40.00. The suspect who was described as a Caucasian male, approximately 20 years old, 5’9”, slim build with long brown hair wearing a baggy hoodie. Patrols conducted in the area to locate the male were unsuccessful. The investigation is ongoing to identify the suspect from the CCTV camera.

On Thursday, September 9th, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to a single vehicle scooter (rental) incident in the 3600 block of Cadboro Bay Road. The 19-year-old male rider lost control due to being inexperienced on the scooter. He hit a curb and was dislodged landing on a low rock wall in a private driveway. The injured rider sustained cuts and road rash to his face and body. A witness who was riding with the male stated his friend was unconscious immediately following the accident despite wearing a helmet. Upon police arriving the rider was awake and alert. The ambulance attended and transported the male to the Victoria General Hospital as a precautionary measure. The rental company was contacted and removed the damaged scooter from the scene.

On Saturday, September 11th, the Oak Bay Police Department received a mischief complaint from a motor vehicle in the 2000 block of Kings Road. The suspect entered the unlocked blue 2007 Ford 150 pickup truck and the registered owner noticed several items were strewn about inside of the truck. Nothing was stolen.

On Sunday, September 12th, the Oak Bay Police investigated a breach of recognizance complaint. The 34-year-old female victim was contacted by her estranged boyfriend who was breaching his court- imposed conditions not to contact her. The boyfriend contacted the victim through several text messages and phone calls. The 50-year-old male suspect was arrested and held in custody for morning court.
