On Monday January 11th an Oak Bay member checked a vehicle parked at the King George Terrace look-out for valid insurance. As a result of the check the 18-year-old female driver, with a class 7 licence, was charged with Impaired driving and Driving While Prohibited. The driver was also issued a 90-day driving prohibition, a 30-day vehicle impound, a violation ticket for No Insurance and received a written warning for cannabis in the vehicle. (OB File 2021-92)
On Tuesday January 12th the Oak Bay Police received a Theft from Auto report in the 3100 blk of Woodburn Ave. The vehicle was believed to have bene left unlocked and had been rummaged through with nothing stolen. (OB 2021-96)
On Wednesday January 13th the Oak Bay Police received a report of an online fraud from a Used Victoria Ad. The complainant sent a $50.00 deposit for an item and the person selling the item never showed up at the meeting location. Complainant flagged the ads as “scam ads”. (OB 2021-110)
On Thursday January 14th the Oak Bay Police received a report of an online Fraud. The complainant received an email from an old friend requesting a favor. The friend needed to buy his nephew $200 in Stream Gift Cards but was having problems buying them online and he was told by his Dr. not to leave his house. The friend asked him to go to the store and then scratch off the back and email him the card number and code. The friend then asked him to send it to a new email address. The complainant sent 2 x $50.00 card number and codes however it bounced back, and he believed it to be a scam. The friend’s email had been hacked. Please call and double-check with anyone sending you an email asking you to buy gift cards etc. (OB 2021-114)
On Thursday January 14th the Oak Bay Police received a report of a motor vehicle incident involving a car and a cyclist. The car was travelling westbound on Estevan when it hit a cyclist travelling southbound on Beach Drive. The cyclist was in the driver’s “blind spot”. Minor injuries sustained by the cyclist. On Friday January 15th the Oak Bay Police were dispatched to a suspicious person report. The complainant advised that their child (they/them) was sitting at a bus stop in the 2200 blk of Oak Bay Ave in the morning when a vehicle stopped close by. The same incident had taken place the previous morning and the driver had taken photos of they/them. They/them stated they knew the driver was taking photos because they/them could see the flash. The complainant advised they had been in the area watching and were able to get a licence plate. Still under investigation. (OB 2021-122)
On Saturday January 16th the Oak Bay Police received a report of an Assault that had occurred in the Oak Bay Marina Parking lot. A group of 4 people were approached by an aggressive male who was upset they were not wearing masks. The group asked the male to mind his own business which made him angry and he followed them to their boat and confronted them again. The group explained to the police that they were all in the same family bubble and they had attempted to avoid the aggressive male, but the male would not leave them alone until one of them grabbed his arm and told him to leave. The male was spoken to. (OB 2021-145)
On Sunday January 17th the Oak Bay Police were dispatched to a suspicious male in the 3700 blk of Beach Drive near McNeil Bay. The complainant stated that an older male was taking pictures of her while she was running, and she had confronted the same male on another occasion. The male stated he had been hit while running in that location before. The male is described as a 70-year-old white male, 5’11, white hair, wearing all black athletic clothing. On Sunday January 17th the Oak Bay Police were dispatched to a suspicious male in the 2300 blk of Cranmore Rd. The complainant advised that a male came up the front steps and peered into the residence and then left. A female in the residence opened the door and yelled “hey” as the male was walking down the driveway. The female then yelled “I see you” and the male picked up his pace without turning around. The female attempted to follow but lost sight of him. Male was described as a white male, 6’, salt n pepper hair, beard, medium build wearing a puffy jacket and a light grey toque. (OB 2021-148)
