On June 29th, police issued a 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) to an Oak Bay resident after they were stopped for speeding on Beach Dr. A small bag of marijuana was also seized from the vehicle.
On June 30th, police responded to 2 theft calls. One of the thefts occurred when someone stole a Canadian Flag from a yard in the 2000 block of Hampshire Rd and the second theft occurred when someone stole 6 Canadian Flags from 6 different houses in the 2700 block of Burdick Ave. No suspects have been identified.
On July 1st, police responded to 2 complaints of theft. The first theft complaint occurred when someone stole a purse in the Bowker Creek Park area. The complainant had left her purse unattended while playing with her infant child. The second theft occurred at the Royal Victoria Yacht club when someone stole a paddle board valued at $1500. There have been no suspects identified in either theft.
On July 2nd, police responded to 2 mischief complaints, and 1 theft. Both mischief calls occurred in the 2300 block of Lansdowne Rd and were related to someone removing storm drain covers. The theft complaint occurred when a male left the Fairway Market on Oak Bay Ave with a shopping cart full of unpaid groceries valued at approximately $340. The male was later identified and will be charged with theft.
On July 3rd, police responded to the reports of two separate thefts. In the first, a vehicle that was originally reported stolen from Victoria and was recovered in the 2700 block of Bowker Ave. The second complaint of theft actually occurred on the 24th of June, when the complainant had their cell phone stolen from Willows Beach. The owner of the phone then noticed it for sale on the internet and contacted police. Oak Bay officers initiated an investigation and as a result a suspect was identified and located. The suspect was in possession of 2 stolen cell phones and a laptop computer which was stolen during a residential break and enter in the West Shore area. The suspect was released to appear in court at a later date for theft under $5000.
On July 5th, police received a complaint of another stolen cell phone. The theft had taken place a few days before but on July 5th the complainant received a message through social media from a male who told the complainant she could have her cellphone back for cash. The complainant then contacted police. Further investigation and inquiries led to a man who is known to police. The man was located and found to be in possession of the stolen cell phone and he was arrested. He will face charges of possession of stolen property.
On July 6th, police responded to a theft that occurred when sometime overnight, someone stole the complainants 8’ grey Avon Redstart inflatable dingy off the top of his car located in the 1100 block of Beach Dr. No suspects have been identified.
