Bike thefts from Oak Bay Rec Centre – This week there have been 3 reported incidents involving bike theft from the Oak Bay Rec Centre front bicycle racks. In the first case a suspicious male was seen apparently casing the bikes, touching the locks. No theft occurred. In each of two subsequent reports an expensive bicycle was stolen by cutting the lock. One bicycle has been recovered and returned to its owner. Bicycle theft can happen anywhere and owners are reminded to use the most theft-proof lock they can afford, record the serial number and take a picture of your bicycle. Parents may want to purchase an inexpensive bicycle for their children to ride to school – leave the high-end bike at home.
