Weekly Media Release May 27-June 2, 2013

May 27th – Armed Robbery – At 3:09 P.M. a male entered the TD Canada Trust Bank at 2000 Cadboro Bay Road wearing a baseball cap, a bandana and gloves. He demanded money and appeared to be brandishing pepper spray. He left the bank with a quantity of cash and was last seen running northbound on Foul Bay Road. He is described as a white male, mid-twenties, approximately 5’6”, slim build and a shaved head.

May 28th – Eleven thefts from vehicle were reported throughout central Oak Bay from overnight. A twelfth theft was reported a couple of days later.

May 28th – Break and Enter – At 2:18 P.M., police responded to a break and enter in progress in the 2100 block of Sutherland Road. The owner observed a male flee his yard. The suspect is described as a white male, late teens/early twenties, wearing a black toque, black fleece jacket , black skate boarder style shorts, black running shoes and carrying a black backpack. He was last seen running eastbound towards Victoria Avenue. A laptop computer was stolen.

May 28th – Theft of Bicycle – At 4:14, a male reported his bicycle stolen from the hallway of his apartment in the 2000 block of oak Bay Avenue. The bicycle was described as a silver KONA, with purple handlebars. He left the bicycle in the hall for 15 minutes.

May 28th – Break and Enter – A man reports that while he was sleeping, someone entered his apartment in the 2200 block of oak Bay Avenue and took his laptop computer.

May 30th – Break and Enter – 2:15 P.M. – Police responded to a complaint of break and enter in the 1200 block of Hewlett Place. The burglar took prescription medications, an extension cord, and a personalized gold letter opener. This is believed to be related to the break and enter on Sutherland Road two days earlier.

May 30th – Theft of Bicycle – 3:23 P.M. The complainant came out to the bike racks at Oak Bay Rec Centre to find their Brody mountain bicycle stolen and the remains of their cut bicycle lock on the ground. Police will be reviewing security tapes.

June 1st – Excessive Speed – 1:32 A.M. Police were conducting speed enforcement in the 2900 block of Foul Bay Road. A 2005 Honda Civic was stopped for excessive speed (40+ Km/hour over the speed limit). The 19 year old female driver was ticketed and her vehicle impounded for 7 days.

June 1st – Marihuana Possession – 7:46 P.M. – A police officer on bicycle patrol smelled marihuana smoke and observed two males seated on a bench in sight of the Oak Bay Police Department. They were checked and a quantity of marihuana was seized from one male. Neither male is known to police. They were warned and sent on their way. Charges are not anticipated.

June 2nd – Mischief to Property – A resident in the 300 block of Denison Road reported that sometime overnight, person(s) unknown knocked over his lamp post and fence. The lamp post is not repairable.

June 2nd – Animal Calls – 3:41 P.M. – Police received a report of a large swarm of bees in a tree near the corner of Cadboro Bay Road and Bowker Avenue. A professional bee keeper was called in and the hive removed.

The 2013 Oak Bay Tea Party was quiet with a record number of vehicles NOT towed, and only a few liquor related calls and one drug seizure. Police want to thank residents for their diligence in removing parked vehicles from the parade route. Your cooperation was greatly appreciated.
