Weekly Media Release June 8th – June 14th

In the early morning hours of June 8th a driver was given a Motor Vehicle Act Violation Ticket for excessive speed and driving contrary to restrictions in the 400 block of Beach Dr. The driver was clocked at 110km/hr in a 40km/hr zone. As a result the vehicle was also impounded for seven days. (OBPD file 2020-1777)

Early in the morning on June 13th OBPD members responded for a report of a suspicious male checking car doors in the 2000 block of Granite St. Patrols of the area were negative for the male. (OBPD file 2020-1817)

June 12th: report of a stolen valtag off a vehicle in the 800 block of Runnymede Place. Complainant notified ICBC of the theft. (OBPD file 2020-1814)

June 14th at approximately 0200 hrs OBPD members responded to a suspicious circumstance when a resident saw a vehicle drive away from a neighbor’s residence and noticed that the neighbor’s vehicle’s doors were open. A conversation with the registered owner of the vehicle confirmed that access was made to the vehicle but that nothing was taken. The suspicious vehicle was not located. (OBPD file 2020-1829)

A complainant received a collection letter from a mobile company for an amount over $3000. The complainant had never opened an account with them. The mobile company is conducting an internal investigation. (OBPD file 2020-1794)

On June 12th a report of a phishing extortion scam was investigated. This scam involves someone sending an email to the victim advising that they are in possession of a compromising and explicit video of the victim in order to extort money from them. Unfortunately, this scam has been making its way around the CRD for some time. (OBPD file 2020-1811)

Multiple OBPD members conducted curfew checks on the prolific offenders residing in Oak Bay. As a result of them not being present during the checks, multiple breach reports were forwarded to their probation officers.
