On March 17th at 9:30am a resident on Newton Street heard a noise outside her bedroom window. The resident observed a husky built, bald Caucasian male wearing a navy blue nylon jacket, riding a bike on her driveway away from the residence onto Newton Street. A while later another family member discovered that a lawn chair from the shed had been placed under the bedroom window. Pry marks were observed on the window frame. Police are continuing their investigation.
On March 19th at approx. 10:40 am a 25 year old Oak Bay resident attempted to open a line of credit at the Scotia Bank on Oak Bay Ave using fraudulent identification. A bank employee became suspicious of the documentation and challenged the female suspect on the authenticity of the ID. The suspect decided to leave the bank and the bank employee called out for assistance. Fortunately, Oak Bay Police Sgt. Ian Craib happened to be at the bank on unrelated business. As the suspect ran out of the bank, Sgt. Craib gave chase and caught the suspect in the 2100 block of Granite Road. She was arrested and later released on a Promise to Appear in Court on three fraud related charges.
On March 19th police received a report of a theft from a car that occurred overnight on Cardiff Place. The vehicle had been parked in the driveway of a residence. Stolen was a pair of Beats Audio headphones and a small amount of cash.
On March 20th, at 11:30 pm, police were called to the Oak Bay Marina for a report of a drunken man on a boat refusing to leave at the request of the owner. Upon arrival at the boat the police found the man had fallen in the water behind the boat. The man was very drunk and had been in the water for approx. 15 minutes. An Oak Bay police officer went onto the swim grid and was able to grab the man who was flailing in the water. She was able to get a hold of the man but he was not cooperative and as a result she was almost pulled into the water. Eventually between two officers they were able to get the man out of the water. Oak Bay Fire and Paramedics also attended and the man was transported to hospital for assessment.
