On March 09th Oak Bay Police investigated a possible break and enter to a residence on Norfolk Rd. Nothing appears to have been stolen and the only room that was possibly entered was an upstairs bedroom based upon some objects out of place. Saanich Forensic Identification Section attended as well as a canine unit. The canine unit was unable to detect any tracks and the Forensic Identification could not develop any evidence of an entry. The investigation is continuing to establish whether a break in actually occurred.
On March 09th Oak Bay Police investigated a break, enter and theft to a residence in the 2300 block of Windsor Rd. The break-in occurred between 11:00am and 4:00pm and stolen was a gold ring with a sapphire stone and an Apple Mac Book Pro Laptop. The residence was believed to have been left unlocked when the owner departed at 11:00am.
On March 10th a resident from the 1000 block of Foul Bay Rd reported a mischief to his Mazda automobile. Overnight, some had damaged the rear window on his motor vehicle by causing a hole approx.. 6” by 2”. No rocks or debris were located inside the car and other vehicles parked nearby were undamaged.
On March 10th at approx. 9:00pm Oak Bay Police checked a motor vehicle parked in the Oak Bay Marina parking lot with three male occupants. The odour of unburned marihuana was evident and the three males were arrested. A small baggie was produced with 3 grams of marihuana. Upon conclusion of the investigation all three males were released without charge and the marihuana seized for destruction.
On March 11th at 10:05pm police were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Cadboro Bay Rd at Hibbens Close. A 24 yr old Saanich male had been driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta north bound on Cadboro Bay road travelling too fast on the wet road surface. The driver lost control and his vehicle spun 360 degrees before striking a hydro pole. The driver was fortunate to only have suffered minor soreness. He was issued with a Violation Ticket for Driving too Fast for Road Conditions.
On March 12th at 8:05am police attended to the 2300 block of Cedar Hill Cross Road to a traffic accident between a pick-up truck and a cyclist. The pick-up had just parked on the north curb of Cedar Hill Cross Rd facing west and a citizen was riding her bicycle also westbound. The driver of the pick-up was in the process of exiting his vehicle when the cyclist struck the open driver’s door. It is believed the elbow of the cyclist caught the edge of the door as neither the bicycle nor the truck’s door was damaged. The cyclist was thrown from her bicycle and landed on her back. The cyclist was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Of note, the back of the cyclist’s helmet was cracked from the impact with the pavement. Wearing of the helmet likely prevented serious head injury.
On March 12th at 11:30pm police were conducting an impaired driving check stop on Cadboro Bay Road by Eastdowne Rd. A 2003 Jeep Liberty drove up to the checkpoint and the female driver had the odour of liquor on her breath and admitted to having consumed wine. A breath demand was made for a roadside screening test and the driver blew a “Warn” reading. The driver was offered a second test on a different roadside screening device and this also resulted in a “Warn” reading. The driver received an Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition for 3 days and her motor vehicle was seized for 3 days.
On March 13th at 4:40am police received a 9-1-1 call to a residence in the 1500 block of Prospect Place to a report of a break and enter in progress. The residents could hear the sound of glass being smashed and the beam of a flashlight. Police attended immediately but the suspect had already departed. A police canine unit from Victoria attended and tracked a scent a short distance but the scent was then lost. Saanich Forensic Identification Section attended to conduct an analysis for evidence. The investigation continues.
On March 13th at 12:15pm an Oak Bay Police officer was conducting property checks to a residence on Hewlett Place and discovered a rear door to the kitchen unlocked. The house was cleared to ensure no one was inside and a property reference called to secure the residence. The police department offers a program where residents can register their property with the police when they’re going to be away for more than a few days. Police will check the property from time to time to ensure everything is secure. This is an excellent example of that program working positively for the home owner.
On March 13 at 1:15pm police responded to a collision between a car and a cyclist on Foul Bay Road by Taylor Street. A 2001 Ford Focus was proceeding south on Foul Bay Road, being followed by a cyclist, also southbound. The automobile signaled a right turn, slowed down and commenced its turn. Just prior to completing the turn, the cyclist struck the passenger rear corner of the car, causing the cyclist to fall off of her bicycle onto the pavement. Injuries to the cyclist were minor, mostly scrapes and abrasions. There was minor damage to the bicycle and the automobile. No charges were considered.
