On March 3rd, police were requested to attend Wilmot Place for a vehicle that had 13 outstanding parking violations. The registered owner worked nearby and paid the outstanding balance of $200.00 to the Oak Bay Municipal Hall.
On March 4th, a vehicle driving on Musgrave Street was not paying attention and almost hit a crossing guard who was holding their sign. The registered owner of the vehicle was issued a written warning letter.
On March 6th, a cyclist was struck by a large cube van who was attempting to make a right turn into the Oak Bay Marina parking lot. The van and the cyclist were both traveling northbound on Beach Drive. The cyclist suffered a broken collar bone and was transported to the Royal Jubilee Hospital. The driver of the van was issued a violation ticket for Driving Without Consideration, pursuant to section 144 (1) (b) of the MVA, with a prescribed fine of $196.00.
On March 6th, two vehicles were travelling eastbound in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue when the lead car suddenly and unexpectedly conducted an illegal U-Turn. The traffic incident caused a minor accident between both vehicles. The driver of the lead vehicle was issued a violation ticket for an Unsafe U-turn, pursuant section 168 (a) of the MVA, with a prescribed fine of $121.00.
On March 6th, a young child was observed spray painting a graffiti tag on one of our local skate board ramps. A maintenance worker witnessed the mischief incident and contacted the police. Arrangements were made with the child’s parents and the Oak Bay Recreation Center staff to repaint the ramp.
On March 6th, police attended a two vehicle collision with no injuries in the 1200 block of Victoria Avenue. A large truck was travelling southbound on Victoria Avenue when it suffered a power steering failure and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle. The damage was minimal to both vehicles, however the unoccupied vehicle sustained a large scrape on its rear bumper and the truck’s power steering fluid discharged onto the roadway. The truck was towed from the scene.
On March 6th, police attended the 3500 block of Beach Drive for a theft incident that occurred sometime after February 28th. Two Scotty Longarm electric downriggers that were bolted to the boat were stolen.
