On March 23rd at 7:48 pm police were conducting impaired driving road checks on Beach Drive at Goodwin St. A vehicle drove up to the road check and the driver was noted to have the odour of liquor on his breath and admitted to recently consuming alcohol. A subsequent roadside breath test resulted in a 24 hour driving prohibition and the impoundment of the motor vehicle.
On March 23rd at 8:33 pm police were conducting impaired driving road checks on Beach Drive at Goodwin St. A vehicle drove up to the check point and the officer smelled an odour of burned cannabis and fresh cannabis within the vehicle. The occupants were arrested and a subsequent search produced two baggies containing a small amount of cannabis. The drugs were seized for destruction.
On March 25th at 9:50 am police were contacted by staff from the Oak Bay High School advising someone had spray-painted graffiti on the south side of the school. Sidewalks, brick walls, doors and the front entrance were all tagged overnight. Estimated cost for the cleanup will be approx. $5000. Police are continuing their investigation.
On March 25th at 9:00 am an Oak Bay resident reported her 1997 Honda Civic stolen from the 2100 block of Cadboro Bay Rd. The vehicle had last been seen 4 days earlier. At approx. 5:00 pm on the same date, VicPD located the vehicle parked in the 3100 blk of Carroll Street with smoke coming out of the engine compartment which subsequently turned to flame and the car burned. Police have identified a suspect and the investigation is continuing.
On March 26th at 8:45 pm police were conducting radar in the 3400 block of Cedar Hill Cross Road in a 50 km/hr zone. Police observed a motor vehicle proceeding east and travelling at a speed of 94 km/hr. The driver was charged with Excessive Speeding which carries a fine of $348.00 and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
