March 25th – Police investigated a collision between a cyclist and a 2003 Honda Civic in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue. The 11 year old cyclist was riding east on Oak Bay Avenue when the Honda made a sudden right turn into an alley. The cyclist struck the rear of the vehicle and the rider was knocked off. The 11 year old sustained some bruises but was not seriously injured. Charges are not anticipated.
March 27th – Just after midnight, police were conducting speed enforcement in the 3400 block of Henderson Road. A vehicle was stopped for speeding and the 21 year old male driver was found to be a student driver with no supervisor. Due to previous offences, ICBC had ordered a two month driving prohibition be served on him. This was done, he was also issued a violation ticket for Fail to Display “L”. A qualified supervisor attended the scene to drive him home.
March 28th – Three members of the Oak Bay Police Department along with members of the Oak Bay Fire Department attended Oak Bay High School to participate in a game of wheelchair basketball. Each team had a police officer, firefighter, teacher, student and wheelchair athlete. The wheelchair athletes demonstrated their considerable skills to the newcomers in this rather challenging sport. The event was sponsored by the Oak Bay Kiwanis “Key Club”.
March 28th – A homeowner in the 2500 block of Florence Street came out to his vehicle to find a male asleep in the back seat. Police attended to wake the male. The owner was not interested in charges so the 33 year old male was sent on his way. The male has a history of mental health and drug problems and was later transported to Royal Jubilee Hospital at his own request.
March 28th – Csts DALEP and LUCAS attended the Lansdowne campus of Camosun College as guest speakers for a first year Criminology class. They answered students’questions on a wide range of topics related to modern policing.
March 30th – A man out for a walk at Willows Beach found a digital camera on one of the park benches. A review of the photos show family camping and vacation photos. If you lost your camera, please contact Cst. GOODWIN or the on-duty sergeant.
