Weekly Media Release March 7-13, 2016

Monday, March 7th,  (#16 – 779):  A vehicle was stopped on Cedar Hill Cross Road when the member noticed the insurance had expired. The driver, who didn’t have his drivers license, was fully aware he driving without insurance. The result? Over $600 in fines plus the cost of towing.

Tuesday, March 8th, (#16 – 785):  The “Welcome to University of Victoria” sign located at Henderson Road and Cedar Hill Cross Road was reported to be painted in graffiti by a group of unidentified females.  Turned out the females covered the sign in saran wrap before painting the sign. The sign was cleaned up prior to the investigating member arriving.

Wednesday, March 9th, (#16 – 798): An assault occurred onboard a Handy Dart bus in Oak Bay. A passenger punched and slapped the bus driver prior to getting off at the destination. The incident is still being investigated.

Thursday, March 10th, (#16 – 814): An Oak Bay resident received a phone call from someone claiming to be from “Apple Care” The caller convinced the resident to provide him with access to her computer to facilitate a repair for a fee of $19.99. The scammer deducted $119 and when correcting the “error” transferred $999 from the residents Visa to Chequing and requested a money order for the $999.  Fortunately the resident realized a scam was taking place and cancelled all accounts.

Friday, March 11th, (#16 – 835):  An insecure vehicle parked in the 1900 Bowker Place was entered. Fortunately nothing was stolen.

Saturday, March 12th, (#16 – 840): An electric bike was damaged when the thief attempted to steal it from the 2300 block Cadboro Bay Road. The bike was locked which might explain why it was damaged during the attempted theft.

Sunday, March 13th, (#16 – 845): Report of an attempted break and enter to a condo building in the 2300 Hamiota Street.  The suspect didn’t gain entry but did damage a door when trying to access the building. No suspects have been identified.

Sunday, March 13th, (#16 – 848): Report of an attempt break and enter to and apartment complex in the 2500 Cadboro Bay Road. The suspect didn’t gain entry but did damage a door.  No suspects have been identified.
