Weekly Media Release Nov. 2 – Nov. 8, 2020

On Monday November 2, 2020, at approximately 9:00am the owner of a business, located near the 2800 block of Foul Bay Road, reported sometime over the weekend the store had been broken into. Oak Bay Police attended with Forensic Identification Services and investigated. It was determined a brick was used to smash the glass in the front door to gain entry and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen. The break in took place between 6:00pm October 31 and 9:00am November 2, 2020. No suspect(s) has been identified at this time. This matter is still under investigation. Tuesday evening, November 3, 2020, Oak Bay Police received multiple calls for a white BMW driving dangerously on Cadboro Bay Road near Uplands Golf Course. Reports came in just after 8:30pm that a white car had been “fishtailing” and driving at a high rate of speed. Police patrolled the area and investigating officers later reviewed camera footage of the event captured by a BC Transit bus that had been in the area at the time of the incident. The suspect driver has not yet been identified however this incident is still under investigation. (Oak Bay Police File 2020-3498)

On November 6, 2020 a resident of Oak Bay contacted police requesting assistance in disposing of some ammunition he located in his garage while tidying up. Officers attended and seized the ammunition for destruction and were happy to help. (Oak Bay Police File 2020-3523).  Oak Bay Police Department would like to remind residents, should you require police assistance for the safe disposal, destruction or relinquishment of ammunition and firearms, to first contact police by telephone and officers will make arrangements to assist with the request. Please do not bring firearms inside your local police department for relinquishment or disposal.

On November 7, 2020, the owner of an SUV, parked near the 2000 block of Quimper St, reported it had been entered overnight. There was no damage to the car however a dashcam and bicycle rack had been stolen. Reminder to please remove valuables from inside and outside your vehicle and lock doors while the vehicle is unattended. (Oak Bay Police File 2020-3532)

Shortly after 4:30pm on November 7, 2020, an Oak Bay resident, who lives near the 3000 block of Upper Terrace Road, reported a man knocked on the door of her home asking for “Steve” and claimed he was there to provide gutter services. The homeowner confirmed “Steve” does not reside at the address and gutter services had not been requested. The man left without incident. Patrols were made however the man was not located. (Oak Bay Police File 2020-3535).  Oak Bay Police encourage residences to report suspicious activity they observe or experience at any time of the day or the night. Perhaps the man mentioned above looking for “Steve” simply had the wrong address, or perhaps he was creating an opportunity to get more familiar with the homeowners’ property and assets. Either way Oak Bay Police are pleased the resident contacted us and
reported the suspicious incident.
