On Nov 30th a resident received several phone calls from a person who had information about the family, claimed to be from a well-known legitimate contest organization and wanted to attend the home to present the resident with $900,000 and a Mercedes Benz. The caller wanted her to first go to the bank and get a special pre-paid debit card in order to complete the transaction. The caller had insisted that the contest representatives would be visiting shortly after the call. The resident suspected a scam and hung up on the caller. No one ever showed up. Everyone should remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Any legitimate contest winner would know that they have entered the contest in the first place and no legitimate contest requires the winner to pay something in order to receive their prize.
