Weekly Media Release Nov. 30th – Dec. 6th

November 30th: Attempt break and enter to a residence overnight through the back door. Access was not believed to have been gained. Unable to substantiate whether damage was caused to the door or lock. Scene was not suitable for forensic examination. No CCTV was available to help identify a suspect. (OBPD file 2020-3778)

December 1st: Mischief to a shed behind a business on Foul Bay Rd. The lock to the shed was damaged but nothing was stolen. No CCTV was available and there were no witnesses. (OBPD file 2020-3791)

December 1st: An OBPD member attended a residence to arrest a male on an outstanding warrant for possession of stolen property, breach of undertaking and failing to appear in court. The male fled out the back door of the residence and hid under the back deck in an enclosed area. The male was taken into custody without incident. The male was held in custody until he appeared before a judge the following day. (OBPD file 2020-3800)

December 4th: Delayed report from November 27th of a Fedex parcel having been stolen off the front doorstep in the 3000 block of Rutland Rd. Goods worth $1378 were stolen. It was confirmed with Fedex that the parcel had been delivered. Neighbourhood inquiries for CCTV were negative. (OBPD file 2020-3827)

December 5th: A traffic stop resulted in the registered owner of the vehicle, who was a passenger at the time, to be issued a driving prohibition for four months in regards to previous driving offences. (OBPD file 2020-3836)

December 5th: Investigation of a break and enter to multiple storage lockers at an apartment building off of Oak Bay Ave. The suspect pried open the intercom panel and accessed wires that he hot-wired to open the door. The suspect then pried open the basement door accessing the storage lockers. He used the pry bar to gain access to two lockers. CCTV footage captured the suspect that can be described as: Caucasian male, medium build, black Nike baseball cap, mustard yellow jacket, blue jeans, white shoes, black face mask covering his nose. Tools and hunting decoy supplies were stolen. File is still under investigation. (OBPD file 2020-3838)

December 5th: While conducting a check stop for Counterattack enforcement on Beach Drive near Windsor Rd., an OBPD member stopped a vehicle and conducted an impaired driving investigation. The forty seven year old female driver was served a 90 day driving prohibition and a 30 day vehicle impoundment. (OBPD file 2020-3854)

Below are some tips in preventing holiday package thefts from your front doorstep:

– Have packages delivered to your work.
– Have packages delivered to a home of relatives or friends that you know will be home.
– Have your packages held at your post office for pick up.
– Request that packages have signature confirmation upon delivery.
