Weekly Media Release Oct 21-27 2013

On Oct 21, 2013 Oak Bay Police assisted Victoria Police by attending to a motor vehicle accident on Fort Street at Fern Rd.  A 32 yr old female from Victoria was driving her 1998 Acura westbound on Fort Street following behind a taxi.  The taxi came to a stop at a red traffic light and the driver of the Acura drove into the rear of the taxi.  The operator of the Acura was issued a traffic violation for ‘Driving Without Reasonable Consideration”.  Both drivers were taken by ambulance to hospital but injuries are not considered serious.

On Oct 22, 2013 at approximately 1:30 am University of Victoria Security observed a Honda Civic driving at a high rate of speed on the roadways of the University property and observed the vehicle to strike a curb causing both tires on the passenger side to deflate.  Oak Bay Police attended and spoke with the driver of the Honda, a 22 yr old Victoria resident.  The driver was under the influence of alcohol even though he was a new driver and prohibited from having any alcohol in his body while driving.  Two roadside screening tests were conducted and both resulted in “FAIL” readings.  The driver was issued an Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition for 90 days and his motor vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

On Oct 23, 2013 at 8:30pm an Oak Bay officer observed two bicyclists riding on Cadboro Bay Rd near Oak Bay High School. One of the cyclists did not have a helmet.  The officer pulled up and spoke with the cyclist whereupon the officer smelled a strong odour of marihuana.  The male, a 25 yr old citizen of New Zealand, was in possession of 25 grams of marihuana.  The male was returning to New Zealand shortly and no charges were pursued.

On Oct 23, 2013 at 9:45pm Oak Bay Police received information that a 32 yr old Saanich male was in breach of his court released conditions of having no contact with a 30 yr old Oak Bay female for whom he is facing outstanding charges of assault.  Police attended to an apartment in the 1000 block of Foul Bay Road and arrested the male for Breaching three counts of his Recognizance conditions.  He was held in custody and taken to court the following morning.

On Oct 25, 2013 at 10:15pm police were conducting an Impaired Driving check stop on Beach Drive at Satellite St.  A 33 yr old Saanich male driving a 2013 Ford Fusion was checked and displayed signs of impairment.  A subsequent roadside test revealed his blood alcohol level was too high to be driving but not high enough for an impaired driving charge.  He was issued with a 24 hour driving suspension and his vehicle was not impounded.
