On October 28th, 2013 Oak Bay Police investigated a Breach of Undertaking at an address in the 1000 block of Foul Bay Road where a 32 year old Saanich male made contact with a 30 year old Oak Bay female with whom the Court had ordered he abstain from having any contact. The male had previously assaulted the woman resulting in the “no contact” order being instituted. A recommendation for charges has been submitted to Crown Counsel.
On October 30th, 2013 Oak Bay Police responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Hampshire Road and McNeill Ave. A 30 year old Oak Bay male operating a Toyota Tacoma was proceeding west on McNeill Ave travelling through the intersection with Hampshire Rd when an east bound Volvo being driven by a 37 year old Cumberland, BC female made a sudden left turn in front of the west bound Toyota. The resulting collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles and minor injuries to each driver. Ambulance attended the scene but no one was transported to hospital. The Cumberland resident was issued a ticket for failing to yield upon turning left.
On November 2nd, 2013 a local citizen delivered to police a scam letter that his elderly parents had received. The letter suggested the recipient had won $750,000.00 in a lottery and included a phoney cheque to cover initial costs for setting up the transfer of the balance. The letter quoted a return address in New York but the envelope indicated it was mailed from Surrey, BC. The phone number listed in the letter for the recipient to call had an area code of 252 which is designated for North Carolina. If anyone receives such a letter, please do not call the number indicated or give out any personal banking information.
Oak Bay Police report a very quiet Halloween this year. The number of calls for assistance was typical for any normal weekday evening. Halloween used to be an extremely busy night for police however since the ban on fireworks came into existence, the number of complaints on Halloween night has declined significantly.
