Passing of Sgt. Dan McLean (Retired)

With sorrow we announce that earlier this morning Sgt. Dan McLean (Retired) passed away at his residence following a courageous battle against cancer. Sgt. McLean served with the Oak Bay Police Department for twenty one years from 1986 until his retirement in 2007. During that time he served as Vice President of the Oak Bay Police Association and was also active in the local community as a coach and volunteer. Dan had a keen interest in the rich history of our department and spent countless hours gathering and documenting the history for the 100th anniversary celebrations. In recognition of those efforts Dan was awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation last week at his residence with his family and the chair of the Police Board, Mayor Jensen, present. Sgt. McLean was proud of his service to the community of Oak Bay. He served as a mentor to several of our current members and will be missed by all of us. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
