Weekly Media Release Sept 8-15, 2013

Over this past week Oak Bay Police members responded to 106 calls for service.  Of those 106 services calls, there were 3 residential break and enters, 2 frauds, 2 assaults, and 5 thefts reported to police.  In addition, there were also a number of bylaw, animal, property, Liquor and false alarm complaints reported to police.

Of the three residential break and enters reported to police, one was an unsuccessful attempt.  The break and enters occurred in the Heron, Dunlvey and Bowker Ave areas of Oak Bay.  In addition, there were also a number of other thefts reported to police.  Oak Bay residents are reminded to call police should they see anything suspicious.

Over this past weekend police also received a number of noise complaints resulting from the “Rifflandia festival” at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria which, considering the distance, was remarkable.

During this past week, police also received a complaint from a boat owner near the Oak Bay Marina, of a dead seal left on his boat.  It appears that the seal had been shot.  The information was passed on to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for their follow up investigation.

Police are also reminding cyclists to wear a bicycle helmet and to be aware that Oak Bay Police members are actively looking for those cyclist not wearing helmets in relation to “Project Headstart”.   Police are also actively working school zones now that school is back in session and reminding motorists that school zone are enforced between 0800-1700hrs, Monday to Friday.
