The Oak Bay Police Department responded to 63 calls for service this week.
BREAK AND ENTER
On July 8, Oak Bay Police received a report of a break and enter at a home under renovation in the 2900-block of Beach Drive. Entry appears to have been gained overnight by moving a temporary board covering, and several power tools were stolen from inside the residence. Officers continue to work with the complainant to confirm the list and value of stolen tools, which is estimated at several thousand dollars. No suspects have been identified at this time. EXCESSIVE SPEED
On July 6 at approximately 11:25 p.m., Oak Bay Police were conducting speed enforcement in the 900-block of Beach Drive, a posted 40 km/h zone, when an officer observed a vehicle travelling northbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was confirmed by laser to be travelling 88 km/h – more than double the posted limit. The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. (File 2026-2045)
Oak Bay Police remind drivers that excessive speed significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death, particularly in residential areas, near parks, and along routes used by pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. Drivers are urged to slow down, obey posted speed limits, and help keep Oak Bay roads safe for everyone.
