On April 24th, police were called to a report of a break and enter to a tool shed of a residence in the 2200 block of Wessex Close. The break-in occurred sometime over the winter months. Stolen from the residence were a power washer and a hedge trimmer. The Oak Bay Police are reminding residents of the importance of locking residential tool sheds.

On Saturday April 27th, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Oak Bay Police Department responded to an abandoned boat on fire at the beach near the intersection of Beach Drive and Midland Road. Upon arrival, the boat and surrounding forest were fully engulfed in flames. It is believed that the boat in question had been abandoned for some time. Oak Bay Fire, Saanich Fire, and the Saanich Police Department attended and determined that the blaze was suspicious in nature. No one was injured in the blaze, and no other property was damaged. Investigation is continuing.

With the warmer summer months upon us, the Oak Bay Police wish to announce our participation in the “Lock it or Lose it Program”.

The goal of the “Lock it or Lose it” program vehicle security audit reminds drivers to always:

– Roll up their vehicles’ windows;
– Keep valuables out of sight;
– Lock their doors; and,
– Pocket their keys.

Police will soon be placing notices on parked vehicles throughout Oak Bay, indicating what safety precautions were overlooked and offering some simple prevention tips for drivers to protect their vehicles against theft. The notice also congratulates drivers who have ensured that their vehicles are secure, with valuables out of plain sight.
