On Wednesday May 1st, 2013, at approximately at 12:35 pm, Oak Bay police were called to a report of a stolen bicycle at the Oak Bay High School. A white male described as 5’8”, in his 20’s with a medium build, wearing a dark brown hoodie, a blue bike helmet and carrying a black back pack was seen riding the blue Kona mountain bike towards Cadboro Bay Road. On Friday May 3rd, 2013, at 6:49 pm, the Oak Bay Police responded to a cyclist that he been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Cadboro Bay Road and Bowker Avenue. An Oak Bay resident operating a Toyota Camry had been travelling westbound on Bowker Avenue, slowing down for a yield sign before turning right onto Cadboro Bay, striking the rear wheel of the bike. The cyclist sustained minor injuries from the collision. The driver of the Camry was issued a traffic violation for failing to yield as well as having no insurance. On Sunday May 5th, 2013, at approximately 6:15 pm the Oak Bay Police were dispatched to a group of youths drinking liquor on the Esplanade at Willows Beach. Police located the youths and observed one consuming alcohol. A ticket for Consuming Liquor in a Public Place was issued. With the onset of summer-like weather, the Oak Bay Police will be increasing their presence and attention to beaches and parks in an attempt to curtail such activities.
