Weekly News Release December 5-11, 2016

On December 05th police received a report of a theft of both licence plates from a parked
vehicle in the 200 block of Denison Rd. The plates have since been cancelled.

On December 08th an Oak Bay citizen fell victim to a fraud and is out approximately $2500.00.
The citizen answered an employment add as a “Bank Evaluator” and was sent a cheque to
deposit in a local financial institution. The citizen then kept $400 as his wage and returned the
remainder of the funds to the “employer” along with a form outlining the quality of the customer
service provided by the financial institution. The cheque turned out to be fraudulent and the
citizen is out the entire amount of the cheque. Police warn citizens that financial institutions
do not hire citizens nor contract out to other firms to use private citizens to conduct such quality
control testing of their institutions.

On December 09th a citizen reported that upon his return to his residence from a six month
absence, he found approx. $2000 worth of property missing. There were no signs of a
break in and police are continuing their investigation.

Police would like to remind citizens that with the expected cold weather next week temperatures
may fall below freezing. The conditions will be favourable to ice forming on the roads. Please
allow for extra time to reach your destination and drive slowly and according to conditions.
Snow tires are recommended for providing optimum traction.
