On November 30th, police responded to the 2100 block of McLaren Ave when the homeowner reported that a bicycle had been stolen from the side of her house. The dark grey Kona Lanai had been leaned against the side of the house on November 20th after school. Perhaps not coincidentally, a bike of lesser value was found discarded nearby.
On December 1st, shortly before 2pm, police responded to a vehicle crash near the clubhouse of the Uplands Golf Club. A 1996 Mercedes sedan, being driven by an Oak Bay resident, failed to negotiate the slight bend in the road while travelling south bound. The Mercedes struck a parked vehicle causing a chain reaction that caused damage to two other vehicles as well. The Mercedes ended up in a hedge. Injuries to the driver and his wife were minor although both were taken to hospital for assessment. The roads were wet at the time. Speed and alcohol were not contributing factors.
On December 2nd, police responded to a residence in the 1200 block of St. David Street when a resident there reported that his black and orange KTM dirt bike had been taken from beside his home overnight. The investigation is ongoing.
Also on December 2nd, police received a report of a theft from motor vehicle on Hewlett Place. Sometime on November 29th or 30th, unknown suspect(s) entered the complainant’s unlocked truck and took two power screwdrivers valued at $250.
With the winter weather upon us, motorists are reminded to pay special attention to road conditions. While winter (snow) tires are not required by law in the Greater Victoria area, please use common sense when deciding whether or not your vehicle is suitable for being taken out in the snow, ice or heavy rain. Issues such as faulty window wipers and fogged up windows are “ticketable” offences.
