Weekly Media Release Dec. 9 – Dec. 15, 2019
On December 15th, 2019, at 1:25 am, the Oak Bay Police conducted a routine vehicular traffic stop, which resulted in the driver being issued a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition for driving under the influence of alcohol, and a 30 day vehicle impoundment (19-4782).
As well, in the early morning hours of Sunday December 15th, three unlocked vehicles were entered and valuables removed from within. One in the 500 block of St. Patrick Street (19-4788), and two in the 1100/1200 block of Roslyn Road (19-4784), (19-4790), in Oak Bay. As these appear to be crimes of opportunity, the Oak Bay Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles as a deterrent to such activity.
On Saturday December 14th at 8:15 pm the Oak Bay Police observed a black Ford Mustang in a commercial parking lot at 1950 Foul Bay Road doing “doughnuts” in the parking lot with wheels lifting from the road surface. The vehicle was observed spinning three times. At the time there were numerous shoppers about. A traffic stop was conducted with the vehicle and the driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without consideration and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. The driver walked home from the scene (19-4778).
On Saturday December 14th at 9:40 am, a male with a shopping cart broke into the outside storage of the Fairway Market on Oak Bay Avenue, by using a tool to cut a metal lock closure and removed 6 bags of recycled empties. He then placed them in a shopping cart and walked off. The male suspect was wearing a Camo Jacket with YRLA logo on the back and sleeves. On December 11th at 5:00 pm, the Oak Bay Police were advised of a daytime theft of stroller that occurred from a residence carport in the 110 block of Hampshire Road. Stroller described as a double chariot stroller, burgundy with black markings and white sheepskin inside (19-4730).
The Oak Bay Police are reminding everyone during the festive season that planning a safe ride home from your party plans should be just as important as the countless hours spent putting the special event together. Mixing alcohol or drugs with driving can be a disastrous combination at any time of the year, especially during the holidays, so remember to be safe and plan ahead.
