On December 22nd, the Oak Bay Police were called to a residential B&E that had occurred over the last week while the occupants were away. The B&E was in the 3000 block of Beach Drive. The suspect(s) ransacked the house and stole items including wrapped Christmas gifts. The Forensic Ident Unit attended the scene. The investigation is still underway. Anyone with information should call the Oak Bay Police Department or Crimestoppers.
On December 21st at 3:30 am, the Oak Bay Police observed a grey 2015 Mazda 5 turn east bound on Fairfield Rd from Memorial Crescent in a suspicious manner. A traffic stop was conducted which resulted in the impaired driver being served a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment (19-4867).
On December 18th at 4:40 am, the Oak Bay Police and Fire Departments attended at the Oak Bay Marina to a large boat fire to a 42-foot wooden structured motor yacht. It was subsequently determined that no one was aboard the craft. Although the boat was destroyed by the blaze, no one was injured and the damage to the immediate environment was minimal. Investigation ongoing to determine the cause of the fire (OB 19-4824).
Again, this week in Oak Bay, unlocked vehicles were targeted for theft in the 700 block of Newport Ave, (19-4860), the 2000 block of Carnarvon Street, (19-4847), and the 1500 block of Clive Drive (19-4829).
On December 17th, at 10:30 am, a male was apprehended behind the Oak Bay Recreation Centre in possession of bolt-cutters while attempting to remove property from the recycling bin (19-4811). This type of activity is occurring more frequently, and the Oak Bay Police would like to remind residents that this can occur at home residences as well and to take the following precautions to avoid being the victims of identity theft;
- We recommend that you shred or tear all papers containing personal information prior to recycling. You can also use a permanent dark pen to cover up confidential information. Place shredded paper in a closed or stapled paper bag, cereal box or other non-corrugated box inside your blue bag.
- We also recommend that you place your recyclables at the curb as close as possible to the pick-up time of 7:30am on the morning of your collection day.
