Incoming Oak Bay Police Chief To Be Sworn In

The new Chief Constable of the Oak Bay Police will be sworn in by Mayor Nils Jensen at Oak Bay Municipal Chambers on Tuesday, April 22nd at 10 am.

Andrew Brinton, will begin his service with the Oak Bay Police as the new Chief immediately following the swearing in. Chief Brinton has 32 years of service with the RCMP and has been the Detachment Commander in Powell River for the past five years. Prior to commanding the Powell River Detachment he was the Operations NCO at the West Coast Marine Unit in Nanaimo. During his career he has worked in Powell River, Nanaimo, Parksville, Boston Bar, Gibsons, Whistler and Burnaby.

Chief Brinton has a very strong background in running detachments, community policing, and collaborative relationships with civic officials and First Nations leaders.

He has signed a five year contract with the Police Board and his official start date will be April 22, 2014.

He is well known in policing circles to be a fair and compassionate leader who has an abundance of experience and common sense.

Andrew Brinton will be the 13th Chief of the Oak Bay Police since its inception in 1906

The Mayor and Council of Oak Bay, the Police Board and the members of the Oak Bay Police Department are pleased to welcome Chief Brinton to the department.
