Interrupted Break and Enter Leads To Aggravated Assault

At approximately 6:20 pm on Wednesday evening, Oak Bay Police officers responded to a 911 call in the 800 block of St. Patrick Street in Oak Bay where a resident had interrupted a break and enter at his residence. The suspect fled and the homeowner attempted to grab him but was unsuccessful. The suspect then turned back on the homeowner and struck him with a pry bar, causing an extensive injury to his forearm. A struggle ensued and the homeowner was able to get the crowbar away from the male, who then fled again.

Police were able to establish the identity of the suspect, who is known to police, and a region-wide bulletin was broadcast to all local police agencies. At approximately 5:45 am this morning the suspect was arrested in the downtown area by VicPD officers. The homeowner was taken to hospital with a significant laceration to his arm.

A 19 year old male is in custody and will appear in court later today charged with Aggravated Assault, Break and Enter, Theft and Possession of Break-In Instruments.

The male will also be charged by VicPD with Possession Of Stolen Property in relation to the Oak Bay break and enter.
