Tuesday, August 19th A man was observed removing sand from Willows Beach in the afternoon. The witness was able to get the license plate number of the vehicle associated with male and he was subsequently contacted and warned regarding the bylaw prohibiting this. For those who don’t know it is unlawful to dig or carry away any of the grass, turf, gravel, earth, sand or rock in or from any part of any park, or any beach, except under contract with District of Oak Bay. The fine associated with offence is $50.00.
Friday August 22nd A vehicle was observed on Oak Bay Avenue traveling at 80 km in a 40 km zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, who was demonstrating his new car to his wife and two young sons, smelled of liquor. The combination of speeding and drinking prior to a vehicle demonstration, lead to the new vehicle getting impounded and the driver receiving a 3 day immediate roadside prohibition and a speeding ticket.
Saturday August 23rd During a roadside vehicle check on Ring Road at University Drive the driver of the vehicle admitted to consuming alcohol in the previous 2 to 3 hours. A roadside prohibition was issued to the driver, his license was seized and vehicle impounded.
Sunday August 24th A vehicle was observed exceeding the posted rate of speed on Beach Drive. When the driver was asked to produce his license, the police officer noted an odour of liquor. As result the driver received a 24 hour roadside suspension.
These last three incidents appear to indicate that people are still not getting the message. If you drink and drive, you will be caught and the appropriate penalties imposed.
