The District of Oak Bay is accepting applications from residents wishing to serve on the Oak Bay Police Board. The current vacancy is for a 2-year term starting September 1, 2026.
Qualifications
Police Board members are from diverse backgrounds from the community and bring diverse skills and experiences to the Board. Candidates should have the following personal attributes:
- Knowledge about, and interest in, the community
- Ability to understand the complexities of policing
- Commitment to protecting fairness, avoiding conflict of interest and maintaining neutrality and objectivity
- Willingness, ability and availability to meet time-commitments related to board duties
- Ability to work with a variety of situations, groups and people, and to deal with difficult interpersonal situations
- Possess problem-solving skills
- Willingness to submit to a criminal record review
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements set out in the BC Police Act
- Individuals employed by police unions or in conflicts of interest are not eligible
